The intensity of Gingerbread House Making

Last night was the annual Gingerbread House night at Familystuf, part of the KiDstuf ministry I lead at Devonshire Church. The sweet smell of refined sugar filled the air. Wafting about was the sound of the mixer as Rich feverishly pumped out the icing for the kids. It’s an all around fun night, made even better by the joy of watching parents work with their kids in the masterpiece.

Claire is no exception. Look into those eyes. There’s an intensity there that is displayed in Van Gogh-ish work of confection. While Lily takes a more Mattel approach, and Alice has that hungry look in her eyes, Claire approaches her art with a deep seriousness. Everything has a purpose, with beauty in mind. I loved watching her work last night. I knew when she was done, she wouldn’t be the happiest about her work, but it was hers and there would be no denying it.
