But Peter said, “By no means, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.” -Acts 10:14
Perhaps the easiest thing we can do in our lives is decide who stays out of our communities. It is easy to walk by, not engage.
This should be the hardest thing for a church to do. In light if who Jesus is and what He has done for us, in light if Paul who understood that now is the time for the nations to come to God, keeping others out should be the absolute hardest thing we can do. The cultural mandates that separated the people from God from the rest of the nations are brought low.
What separates those in the church to those outside the church isn’t how we dress, or how we eat, or whether we go to movies or not. What separates us is who we know to be Lord of all. And how we see Jesus will certainly affect how we act in this world. But it certainly puts a strain on the idea that others should be kept at an arm’s length, as if they do not deserve the same kind of mercy shown to us.
